Borja Jiménez leaves Leganés with unanimous recognition for his work

The unanimous applause from the Leganés fans at Butarque right after relegation became official shows just how much they appreciated Borja’s efforts. The scenes were profoundly moving.

Borja and the club decided to part ways by mutual agreement after two years that brought him a promotion, historic wins against FC Barcelona and Atlético, and a thrilling quarter-final tie in the Copa del Rey against Real Madrid. His team always fought hard, even with the league’s smallest budget.

The 40 points they earned would have been enough to avoid relegation in every major European league. But beyond the numbers and memories, Borja leaves knowing he gave everything he had and feeling proud of the mark he left on Leganés with his character and personality. “I’ll keep hold of the most beautiful gift football has give me: the way the fans said goodbye. To me, that’s the most important title I’ve ever won as a coach”.
