Raúl Pareja, a former football player, is a coach and commentator in different media.
Raúl Pareja León (1974, Palma de Mallorca) has successfully retrained after a creditable career as a professional player. The former RCD Mallorca defender, where he managed to promote to LaLiga; Real Madrid B or Leganés CF, has contributed with his football knowledge to the media for years (especially within IB3 Televisió, the regional channel of the Balearic Islands ).
His training has complemented Rául Pareja’s media journey. His specialisation in Physical Education has allowed him to teach at the school level. Since 2006 he has held a civil servant position at the CEIP Son Ferrer. He has also completed the UEFA C coaching course at the Balearic Islands Football Federation. Consequently, he took charge of the CE Andratx youth team.
Football career
In the centre-back role, Raúl went through all the lower categories of RCD Mallorca until his debut with the first team in the 1993/94 season (in the Second Division). In the 1996/97 season, he was part of the squad that reached the top flight of Spanish football. In that dressing room, he shared experiences with Marcelino Elena, Javier Olaizola, Paco Soler and Jovan Stankovic, members of the most remembered Mallorca team.
In the 1997/98 campaign, while in the ranks of Real Madrid B, he coincided with Esteban Cambiasso, Alberto Rivera or Mista, with Miguel Ángel Portugal as coach. Later he would play for Leganés CF, Orihuela CF, GD Chaves (Portugal), Cartagena CF and Binissalem CF.
Media experience
Raúl began his work at IB3 Televisió as a commentator for Second Division matches during the 2005/06 and 2006/07 seasons. He then went on to take charge of the First Division and Copa del Rey matches (2007/08 and 2008/09 academic years).
In the 2009/10, 2010/11 and 2011/12 campaigns, he presented a summary program of each league matchday (‘Joc i Gols’). He was a commentator for ‘Zona Champions’ (IB3 had the broadcasting rights for the UEFA Champions League from 2009 to 2012). Raúl has also collaborated on the ‘Campions’ program (in 2015) and has been a commentator for RCD Mallorca’s pre-season matches, official matches (2017/18 season) and numerous children’s football tournaments in recent years.
Apart from his work with IB3, he has analysed and commented on the RCD Mallorca matches for Última Hora Radio (from 2013 to 2015), Radio Marca (from 2015 to 2017) and the RCD Mallorca web radio (2018/19 season).
