Juan Mata completes a remarkable record with Galatasaray

Galatasaray has won the Super League title after a great season. Juan Mata adds another trophy to his countless list of winners and becomes the second Spaniard to win a League with the Istanbul side. The conquest of the Super League has rounded off the Asturian player’s luxurious list of honours.

Mata has won competitions in Spain (Valencia), England (Chelsea and Manchester United) and now in Turkey (Galatasaray). Of the Spanish players with whom he reigned at European and world level, in 2010 and 2012, only Xabi Alonso and Pepe Reina have achieved something like this (lifting cups in at least three countries). As for the most important titles, Fernando Torres, Pedro Rodríguez and Juan are the only ones from that historic generation to have lifted the World Cup, Euro, Champions League and Europa League.

Similar to the Asturian player case were those of Wesley Sneijder and Didier Drogba: football stars who were champions with Galatasaray after winning the Champions League at another club. Drogba was Mata’s teammate at Chelsea when the Blues won the Munich final against Bayern.
