Samuel Sánchez Makes His Mark at the Inaugural Tour of Armenia
Samuel Sánchez was one of the main stars of the historic first edition of the Tour of Armenia. The 2008 Beijing Olympic champion served as the official ambassador for a new UCI race that has burst onto the international calendar, generating significant attention both inside and outside Armenia.
Samu was present during the decisive days of the race and actively participated in various events organized by the event. The Spaniard watched the queen stage—which finished at Lake Parz—live, presented awards to the day’s standout riders, and also played a prominent role in the closing ceremony held in Yerevan. During the final stage, he was in charge of the start of the day’s racing and once again took to the podium to honor some of the most outstanding cyclists of this inaugural edition.
His presence also brought the perspective of an Olympic champion to a project that aims to establish itself on the racing calendar. Samuel highlighted Armenia’s potential to host a major international race, its course, the quality of the organization, and the warm welcome from the public. After experiencing the competition firsthand, he expressed his conviction that the Tour of Armenia has what it takes to continue growing and attract top-tier teams in the future.
The scope of his role as an ambassador has also garnered significant media attention. In Spain, media outlets such as MARCA, AS, La Razón, Ciclo21, and RTPA have covered Samuel’s participation in the Tour of Armenia, highlighting both his status as an Olympic champion and the prestige he brings to a race that is just getting started.
The impact has also extended beyond Spain’s borders. International media outlets such as Tuttobiciweb in Italy, Public Radio of Armenia, and Armenpress—two of the host country’s leading news sources—have also highlighted Samu’s role as the face of the new competition. His appointment was also covered by media outlets in other markets, reflecting the international reach the race achieved in its debut.
The Tour of Armenia concluded its inaugural edition after four stages and garnered widespread international coverage. The race was broadcast on platforms such as HBO Max, Disney+, ESPN, FloSports, SBS, and SPOTV, among others, putting Armenia on the map of international professional cycling for the first time.
