Martin Varini starts a new phase with ImagoSport

Martín Varini is responsible for one of the revelations of 2025 on the American continent: Juarez are breaking the mould and have just broken their all-time points record in Liga BBVA MX. The Bravos had never before achieved 21 points in a short tournament and are now dreaming of playing in the Liguilla of the Clausura 2025 under the guidance of the young Uruguayan coach.
At only 33 years of age, Varini is one of the most promising coaches on the American continent. With the conviction and desire to continue to grow, the Uruguayan begins to work on his communication with ImagoSport. An honour and a challenge for us.
After an intense period as a footballer at Defensor Sporting – a club where he was youth captain and played in the final of the U-20 Libertadores – he hung up his boots at the age of 22 and began a different path: he trained as a Business Administration graduate and then returned to football as a youth coach at the club where he had developed his career as a player. ‘Team management, leadership and organising processes are as much a part of business as they are in a football team,’ he says.
Varini continued to progress, becoming head coach with Rentistas. At the helm of this club, he made his debut in the Copa Libertadores at the age of 29. He then joined Paulo Pezzolano‘s coaching staff at Cruzeiro and Real Valladolid, experiencing two consecutive promotions in Brazil and Spain. In 2024 he returned as head coach to Defensor Sporting, where he won the AUF Uruguay Cup and had a great season. That same year he took over at Athletico Paranaense in Brazil, competing in three tournaments and leaving good impressions. “In the end, success lies in balance: a team that is well worked tactically, solid mentally and committed to a clear style,” he told Marca in one of his first actions for ImagoSport.
We are people leading others to achieve a goal”.
Currently, at the helm of Juárez, he is pursuing a dream based on his passion for football and analysis of the game: ‘We are people leading others to achieve a goal’. So far, he has already achieved more wins in a short tournament than any other coach at the helm of the team.
